    Growth And Breeding Calendar

Ok I have a pair of BP's about 1 year old and 70cm long and two females on the way. The two new females are both around 1meter.

According to Adams breeding calendar you start placing males and females together in November. Does this mean that you place them together just before mid winter. Would this mean May if I live in the southern hemisphere?

Taking my BP's into consideration do you feel that my male and two new females will be ready to breed in May 2007?

    Re: Growth And Breeding Calendar

november here is fall, so whatever is your fall is where you would start. you can breed all year long, but it is alot easier to cycle temps in the fall/winter. also placing them together (pairing) is temporary. place the male in the females cage/tub until they lock up or a day or two, then put the male back in his setup and rest him for 3 days. it is important to rest the males.

most breeders consider around 1500 grams to be a minimum weight. also length is important, a long snake at 1500 grams might not have enough reserves for breeding? so 500 grams per foot is another average.

Don't forget that the natural habitat for Ball Pythons in Africa is also in the southern hemisphere. They still tend to breed about the same time in Africa, as most of the imported babies come into the States in May and June. From this you could deduce that captive breeders have try to mimic the same cycling period as the one found in the wild. Just my two cents.

yeah well I live in South Africa.

"Fall" or autumn as we call it is May so how would babies be available then.

It does seem different to corns though because we breed them around late winter and hatch in spring.
