Angry HELP! How do I tell on a Pet Store in Canada... BP NEEDS SAVED!!!

Pets Unlimited in SJ, NB, Canada is CRAZY!

When I wanted to buy a BP from them a year ago they told me they were Illegal to sell and would not give me one!

WELL.... They now have a BP and when I asked the manager why he was selling it 2 weeks ago, he LIED! "Ball Python, we dont sell thoses, thoses are illigal" well there was on sitting in the tank just around the corner. "Then he told me he was being FORCED to sell it" And he kept saying to me they dont sell them but I'm not retarded and I know a BP when I see one! What an A**!

anyway, I was looking at the lil girl and the "temp stat" was floating upside down in a half full water dish.... but I figured I wouldn't say anything and I would go back next week and see how well they were treating her....

WELL... I went back on the weekend! HORRIBLE!!!!
The temp stat was on the floor of wood chips, and the water dish was totally dry. I cant tell you how hot it was and I can almost guarantee she didnt haver enough humidity. I couldn't see her cause she was hiding but I bet you she has mites and probably cold!

I told my dad and he wanted to buy her just to get her out of that situation but we can't afford a second BP. and I know if they do sell her it will probably be to a person who has no idea what they are getting into....

SO.... after all that I plan on telling someone about her treatment. I want to know if anyone knows who I can contact??? SPCA???? Probably not???
Someone who will take her away... even if they put the girl to sleep it's better then trying to survive in an environment like that! I need help...

I would save the cats and dogs there too, but I guess thats life! They look so sad in the glass cages!

If you buy her.. or ANY animal in a petstore that takes such horrible care of their animals, you will not be "rescueing" her. You will be Buying her, which will encourage the owners to get more, and keep them in exactly the same conditions. Maybe try talking to the owner and giving them a Care sheet to see if he will change some of the conditions. Try the ploy of "You know, if she looked healthier, I know a few people who would LOVE to buy her. Too bad." Maybe if he thinks by keeping them in good conditions he can sell more, he would up the conditions, not as if it is all that hard to keep a BP properly.
In the meantime yes I would contact any Animal Welfare organizations possible to report the store.

Maybe the snakes interpretation of pain is a little different from yours and in the snakes view, not worth dying for? .... I know that if I was stuck in a strange place for a little while with little or no water or food I wouldn't want someone judging me as "in pain" and wanting to "put me to sleep" ... I'm a survivor ... and just maybe that ball python is too?

Re: HELP! How do I tell on a Pet Store in Canada... BP NEEDS SAVED!!!

I've seen more than a few FUBAR ball pythons that bounce back to healthy in a single shed when brought into optimal conditions. I wouldn't write that one off so fast.

Ever try calling Animal Control, the local humane society, health department whatever equivalent, and report the store? They probably have another critical violation that would get them shut down aside from the BP, so you would be taking the indirect approach to getting the situation remedied.

Adam you right again... I should have never made the comment!
    Sorry!

    Ok..back to the subject!
I have just emailed the Pet Store and also its Headquarters, and I explained them everything and also attached a caresheet for them to go over. I told them I would be back soon and expect to see a healthy BP and if not I told them they would be reported!

We will see how it goes... I need so more rats so I will be going by probably on the weekend! But I will give them one week to fix the problem!

I want to see the temperature in the tank! I'm worried its way off!

Depending upon the condition of the snake, I wouldn't expect to see it make a full 360 in a single week...at least look for an improvement like having the basics...fresh water, clean tank, appropriate heating...that's at least a step in the right direction and will sustain the animal until someone purchases it.

Re: HELP! How do I tell on a Pet Store in Canada... BP NEEDS SAVED!!!

    Totally agree...
Thats all I want to see.
Clean water and some temp stats that i can read and see if it is warm or cold!
I'd kinda like to see a smaller hide cause its WAY bigger then the snake but will work on the most important stuff first! : )

Thanks for your input gang! I'll try to keep you posted on the outcome!
