Incubator help?
I am needing some info on how to wire a computer fan inside an incubator, Im not real good at this kind of stuff so im looking for help before I burn down the house trying to figure it out myself lol. The incubator is an old fridge (if that helps any).

Re: Incubator help?
what voltage is the fan? they can be 12 volts or 120 volts.
120 volt fans can wire straight to a power cord, 12 volt fans need a transformer to convert from 120 volt(wall outlet) to 12 volts on the fan. radio shack sells both models and transformer if needed.

Re: Incubator help?
Get a 4" AC fan from Radio Shack and wire it to a cord as Vaughn said.
It will be bigger ... move more air ... have less points of failure ... and runs about $15.00.

Which, is actually a little bit cheaper than the AC to DC converter that you would need to buy to run that computer fan. Great advice Adam.

I don't disagree with the advice given - just wanted to give another option. If you robbed a fan from an old computer, the power supply is probably still there as well. It would serve the purpose for your transformer.

Re: Incubator help?
Steve, in his original psot, he said that he din't really want to burn his house down, meaning, he is not an electrician. If you want to give advice like that, then explain to him where the power source is in the old computer, how to remove it, and how to hook it up to his fan. Sounds like more trouble than going to buy a 4 inch AC fan from Radio Shack.

Yeah, you're probably right. However, I assumed that if he knew how to disassemble a computer and get the fan out, he already knew where the power supply was and how to get it out as well. If he disconnected the fan from the power supply, he already knows how to hook it up. If his computer didn't burn the house down, its not likely that the power supply or fan will either. Basically, if he needs help, he'll ask. You're also right in that its more trouble than buying a new 120v fan. But, since he already mentioned his free fan that he removed from the computer, I thought I'd offer a free solution. I could say that if you want to give that kind of advice to me, you should know something about it as well, but that would be antagonistic, wouldn't it?
