How often are eggs successfully fertilized?

A friend asked me this the other day and I am drawing a blank, did a few searches and didn't get the answer. How often do females form follicles/reabsorb them instead of them getting fertilized if they are having a male cycled in with them?

    Thanks

If you're doing it right ... never.

Out of everything I bred, I had one girl reabsorb this year, but only because I stopped putting the male with her way too early ... I knew from the get go that she would ... I'm almost 100% for getting eggs if I can "feel" follicles ... I think a lot of the "ultra sound" people "see" follicles that later don't make it to eggs because they can "see" them a lot earlier than you can "feel" them.

But some females "take years off", correct? Not necessarily reabsorbing, but not producing?

Absolutely ... some girls will copulate all season and never develop follicles that can be felt ... and then never lay eggs (that season) ... but with few exceptions, if I can get a female to a point where I can palpate follicles, I'm confident that I'm getting eggs from her.
