Re: Question on UTH's
The best way to heat a plastic encloser is with flexwatt thats controled by a thermastat. you can find both of these at http://www.mgreptiles.com/

Re: Question on UTH's
Your UTH will work much more efficiently when heating a plastic containter vs. the glass enclosure you are using now. Glass does not hold heat in, whereas plastic does an excellent job in doing so. You'll need a thermostat to control the UTH though- it will extend the life of the UTH as well as prevent it from developing hot spots that can burn your snake.

Re: Question on UTH's
With a plastic tub, a simple on/off thermostat will work fine enough, so long as the temperature of the room where the tub will be located is stable. An on/off stat will have trouble keeping up if the room is drafty cold, very hot, or varying constantly anywhere in between.
You could go the extra mile and get a proportional thermostat such as a helix or herpstat. I didn't really "get it" until I switched over to a proportional. They rock.

Re: Question on UTH's
Right on! Proportional is the way to go. Helix, Herpstat, whatever you prefer. Check out www.reptilebasics.com for all your Helix and Flexwatt needs and www.spyderrobotics.com to purchase Herpstats!
