One of my babies might be retarded.

I noticed some strange head movement from this girl yesterday when I was setting her up in her tank. Keeping her head usually tilted up, I figured she is probably dizzy or something possibly like that. Today checking quickly on the babies, I notices more stange head movement from her. She was rolling her head back all the way, even resting back on her neck for a second or two, exposing the underside of her chin. It seemed uncontrollable but I would not call is a spasm, maybe it took 8 seconds for a full rotation. Does anyone know what is wrong with her? Is it something permanent and mental, or a horrible internal problem. I think I will learn alot more about her quality of life if I get her to eat or not. I'm looking to get a vet appt. soon.

Maybe it's stargazing? I've read something about that kind of behavior. It's some sort of neurological disorder. If it continues I would definitely see a vet.

Wow now I am really freaking out. I think she has IBD. I will separate her immediately tomorrow morning. I would call her highly disoriented the the conditions high worsened over the 24 hour period I had her. I think I will have to euthanize her. I am immediately going to move the other four females away from the hets.

Did you quarintine this snake at all since you have had her? Or is this a baby you produced? Dont totaly freak out until your vet give you his diagnoses.Seperate her now if you have not quaritined her at all its not worth the chance if it is IBD.I have a freind who produced some boas last year and one had a bend in its neck,its doing great last i heard.Keep us posted on what the vet says.

Yeah Cubby Keep that girl seperate from the rest. Another house would be optimal. Damn if it wasnt so late I would offer a hand. You do only live a couple miles east of me you know. But anyway. not real sure, but it may be a problem in the nervous system? does the head kind of sway around and not stay in one place? always have a tilt or angle on it? never really flat or still?

It was certainly IBD. Her condition this morning was horrendous. She had lost a alot mroe weight overnite and her whole belly was an awful concave. She had even less control over her head and body. I thought she was gonna die right in my hands. Sadly I put her down. I knwo it was the best thing though all cases of IBD die.

Oh geez! How sad and how frightening! What steps are you going to take to make sure it doesn't spread to the rest of your collection? If I remember right, you got this baby in an order with several others, yes? How are they? Are they now completely away from your established collection? Have you contacted the person you bought them from?
