    Frustrated with temps

ok I'm losing my temp gradient again. It's frustrating the hell outta me. There isn't too much of a diff between the warm and cool side now. I think it has something to do with room temps in my room. as it sits right now, 92 warm, but 86.5 cool. It seems to be rising slightly every hour or so. I can keep the warm side at the perfect temp without any problems. I can cool the room temp down but that requires the fan on high and the door open which = the humidity dropping like a stone. right now the humidity is at 47% but it will drop to 30-35 if I open the door and crank the fan. So to my question

what can I do to cool the cool side, but keep the humidty?

    Re: Frustrated with temps

Describe your setup? What type of enclosure and what are its dimensions? What are you using as a heat source?

I am going to go out on a limb and say that your enclosure is probably to small. Too much heat going into too little space.

    Re: Frustrated with temps

it's a 20 gallon tank, about 30" across. I have an UTH and Ceramic Fixture both of which are on the extreme left side. 2 hides, one on each end. water dish in the middle. My room is rather small and heats up fast. My room has always been rather warm so heating is no problem, but cooling is.

    Re: Frustrated with temps

Well, you could try heating the tank with only one heating unit, rather than two. See if that helps. And/or you can take the steps needed to keep your room cool, and then extra steps to maintain the humidity in the cage...such as covering the screen top (if it has one) and misting daily.

    Re: Frustrated with temps

honestly the cool side temp isnt that bad. if you want it to be perfect keep tinkering. I use slate rocks covered with the normal substrate to knock down the heat on my cool side.

    Re: Frustrated with temps

u should be able to get the right gradient with a 20 g tank. i used one and had a good set up for the first few months on my bps life. maybe try and let more air rise from your cool end. it'll take some friggin, but be patient.

    Re: Frustrated with temps

Try putting a small oscillating fan ($20 at Wal-Mart or any other big evil-empire superstore) in your room near the cage. Sometimes a little extra air circulation will work wonders in a situation like this. Never hurts to try.
