Just adopted a 5 and a hlaf foot RTB

OK I went out and did it again. I have now adopted a RTB that is in need of my help. She ( I probed her to make sure) has scaring from a bad burn and has very bad scale rot on her tummy. SHe is need of alot of TLC to help her thru this. The past owner fed her wild caught rats so my first thing is to have a poop sample done and get her treated. then its antibiotics and zinc cream for her burns. They are healing but look like they have been reopened a couple of times. She is a grumpy girl but is handlable once settled. I have her in a sterile ISO tub and will keep her there til I know she can go into a normal tub or I may add her ot my collection.

She needs specialized care right now and IM also going to take loads of pics for use as an education tool. I have been asked to do a few talks in schools and if I can get her settled down she would be a good one to show how not to treat your snakes.

How did I miss this thread? LOL Well congrats on the new RTB, sounds like you've got her issues well in hand. Blech on the whole feeding wild rats thing....what was the guy thinking? We need pics (hint...hint!) What are you going to call her?

I hope it's okay to ask here, what is scale rot, and where does it come from?

Scale rot is how it sounds. It is where the skin of the snake is in constant contact with its own urine and poo, and from the bedding being to wet. Over it is caused by filthy damp conditions.

if caught early it can be treated with simple bedidine and a good shed. But if in the case of my RTB it is going to take a couple of months to get it sorted and alot of tlc.
