Overheating!

HELP!!! We have record breaking heat here in Los Angeles and my house has no AC. Ambient temps in the cages are around 92 degrees. I turned off ALL heating units and that is the temp in the house. I need to know how to lower the temp so that my snakes are ok.

I'm not sure is it'll work but maybe you could use some (dry) ice or some cold packs. I'd just put them under the cages if there's room. Sorry if I'm not much help. I hope you get everything under control!

Maybe put a tupperware filled with water and ice cubes to make a cooler side?

You may want to put ice packs on the top of one side of the tank since cool air sinks. Just make sure it doesn't get too cool in there either.

Will you be able to get a window air conditioner unit?

We are having an estimator for a new AC unit come out here on Wed. So I will be staying home Wed. and hoping that installing AC using the existing ductwork isn't that expensive. As far as the slithery ones go I placed one of those blue ice packets into a clean sock and stuck it in their cages. The BP is right next to it now, and the BCI could care less.

If your windows are open at least cover the upper part well to keep the heat from the window glass heating up the room more, get a cross current going in the room if possible. Cut off all lights in the room you don't absolutely need. You would be surprised how much heat comes from an overhead light. If you use ice to cool make sure there is a subtrate or other barrier between the animals & the ice to prevent them getting overly chilled. Preferably only one end of the enclosure. Warm blooded animals can have the ice right next to them with no harm.

92 is fine for a bp until you get your AC fixed.
