The Rancos are fine. I wouldn't use one for a rack as I personally like the proportional thermostats better, but I use one to keep my snake room warm and it keeps it within a couple degrees.

Re: 6-Outlet Wired Ranco Thermostat any good?

There was recently a post on the KS ball forum (can I say that) from a guy that switched from Rancos to Helix's and is now saving 25% on his electric bill by switching from an "on/off" thermostat to a proportional.

I personally prefer the way proportional stats work over on/off stats like Rancos. When Rancos hit the market I tried one out and saw some signifigant temp swings compared to my proportional t-stats. Ball pythons are sensitive enough to temps that a swing of only a couple of degrees can throw them off food.

Hope this wasn't a thread hi-jack, I am honestly just trying to help.

Ranco's make a good backup tstat. I am all for proportional.

Yup analog vs digital... thats one reason proportional is more expensive and still handles less power

And if you're investing hard earned dollars into ball pythons (or any other high end species), it's a small price to pay for that extra accuracy.
