NO,from my understanding it starts from upper resp then progresses into the mouthrot. When i was doing rescues i adopted a boa that had mouthrot big time.Other then that the part that really killed me was the guy bought it from the Tinley park show in Chicago. It was sold with mouthrot since the guy was rather new to reptiles he had no clue something was wrong.Do you have a snake that might have mouthrot? Or are you just asking about it?

Ulcerative Stomatitis aka "mouth rot" is an infection of it's own and not caused by or necessarily related to upper respiratory infections.

There are a ton of bugs that have been associated with stomatitis in herps like A. aerophila, A. hydrophila, Proteus sp., Staphylococcus sp., and Streptococcus to name a few that I've seen.

Stomatitis is very often the result of poor husbandry which could also be the cause of a URI ... but one doesn't necessarily cause the other.

    Hope this helps.

Incorrect ... a scratch or cut on the inside of the snakes mouth from a rodent tooth or claw could get infected and result in mouth rot.

Can't snakes also get stomatitis from a small piece of bedding lodged in the gums (like a splinter) that subsequently became infected??

Right .. above when I said a "scratch or cut" I was only using rodent teeth or claws as an example of a possible cause.
