In your opinion, what is the best 'display' reptile?

I know each group will vary from species to species, but which group of reptiles do you think generally makes the best display type captive? Why do you think that group is better than the others? and what 'display' type reptiles would you like to keep?

I think diurnal lizards and snakes are great for displays, but for me lizards generally win out because of their increased activity when compared to snakes.

If I had to pic a few reptiles to 'display', I would have to go with.....bearded dragons, fence lizards, collard lizards, rough green snakes, and garter snakes.

My "dream" display animal is the Green Tree Pythons...I'd love to have several in different color phases. And Sheree (Medusa Owl) has pretty much proven that Blue Beauties make awesome display critters as well....so I'll take a couple of those, too!

hmmm, i would say red eye tree frogs for an active nocturnal diplay and giant crimson day geckos for an active diurnal display--both in an attractive naturalistic setup. that's what i would choose anyhow.

I think some snakes are good for display, but not many. They tend to be in hides more, more active snakes would be good display. Thats why I said Lizards, they tend to be out basking and such more often.

I was waiting for someone to say a GTP I think it is interesting to see what and why people consider certain things a 'display' animal. Snakes like Green Tree Pythons are beautiful animals...but they don't really do it for me as a display animal. I like things with motion I could keep a rather boringly colored lizard like a female fence lizard as a display animal over a GTP....but that is only because I like to observe animals running around etc

....and Blue Beauties would make wicked display snakes....Sheree, how long are yours generally out and about alot during the day?

I like movement...but I also really enjoy just sitting and staring and studying details you can't see if they're moving all the time. And then, when you do catch a more sedentary animal moving around, it's all the more special and captivating to me.

....ain't that the truth....ha....I know when I see my ball pythons out and about...I usually have to pull up a chair and watch

ME TOO! LOL But ya have to do it ever so slowly...otherwise, they get startled and dart back into their little caves.

I have to go with mlededee on the Red eye's I love to sit and watch mine move around at night.
I said snakes as I love to see my Carpet out on a branch on display for me and a GTP is in my near future.
but my best display animals are my lizards my Aussie WD, my Argus Monitor(most active animal I own) and my water monitor.

Blue Beauties! They are excellent display animals! Ma-tsu cruises all day long and is absolutely stunning to watch! I'm awfully biased naturally, but they certainly get my vote. "Cruise, cruise, pause to pose for camera, cruise cruise cruise... bask for a bit... perhaps a spa treatment in the water dish... cruise cruise cruise..." Then she tucks herself away in the evening, unless she falls asleep on her branch or something.

Neptune did too for a while but has been very hidey lately... Vet appointment on Monday for both, wish me luck on that! I'm hoping he's just being an antisocial butt and that they're both in excellent shape... *crosses fingers*
