    Rat Genetics? Picture!!

First time Ive had a rat that is this color of gray/silver. I'm sure they are all over the place, but none of my males or females are this color, and his mother sure wasn't. Makes me curious about how the genetics work.

I read some more and I guess this might be a "blue" which is recessive, cool either way. Genetics are fun!

    dinner time!

I have a blue male rat. None of his babies are that color.. (of course since it's recessive and none of the females carry blue)

    It's a nice color.

That rat is so cute with its gray head. I can't feed the ones with black eyes and black spots on their heads, only the creepy pink eyed ones lol

I'm sure that color is called blue agouti......however, that cute shade of "baby blue" will surely darken as he/she gets older. The color is hard to find though, esp. in pet stores. Even more difficult is the black-eyed white, which I am still searching for as I would love to have one!!!
Oh, and that pic of the cat is absolutely awesome....he's lickin' his chops...mmmm..dinner!!!

    Re: Rat Genetics? Picture!!

That would actually be american blue. Blue Agouti has a brown undercoat, where that one has white.

You will probably get alot of blacks breeding any blue rats, unless you breed blue to blue(American, Russian, Sky, Powder, or Double Blue). I have a few of the different kinds of blues, so if anyone wants pictures(or of any other color), I will post 'em.

I have a MIsmarked Black Eyed White(black spot by his temple), his name is RMAX The Moose Is Loose. Moose suits him as his uncle was over 2lbs. BIG rat. Moose is around 1.5 and isn't even a year old yet. Phatty McFatRat... I'll see if I can find pictures.

I'd like to see pictures of your blue rats. I used to have a dove rex male.. it was a kind of powder blue.
