Breeding Project
Ok, so I know I dont have the most experience with snakes but my parents said that as soon as I get a job, I can by 2 snakes and breed them. What would be concidered "easy" to breed. I want the easyest thing to start off. Thanks

Re: Breeding Project
Why not get the species you are really interested in instead of just the easiest and while you raise them up, learn all you can about breeding them?
Most of the species on the market can be successfully bred given the correct conditions.

Re: Breeding Project
Well with school, a job, and breeding that would be alot of work. And I know that there are ALOT of people breeding and also working but im not sure if I could keep up with it. But that is a good idea. Are you able to breed one male to say 2 or 3 females in a season?

Absolutely. But before you get in over your head, keep in mind the costs associated with breeding. Not just the purchase of the snakes but proper care and housing, vet costs, incubator, caging for hatchlings. I am not trying to discourage you, just giving you some things to think about.

Jamie makes some excellent points. Vet trips alone can be VERY expensive. I have spent about $500 in the past 2 months alone on visits and meds. Not to mention that the only decent vet around here is an hour away one way and gas is not cheap.

Re: Breeding Project
Yeah, not everyone gets lucky enough to get a free incubator...... another thing you have to keep in mind is what you're going to do with all of the offspring. While BP's have small clutches, some snakes like corns and other ratsnakes can have clutches over 20! Will you be able to find good homes for all your little guys??? All in all, If you can do it, go for it.It's a wonderful experience.

Depends on the type of snake. For ball pythons it varies by breeder. I would hope most keep them until they've eaten several meals, and are up ~ 200 grams, but if someone is buying a young one and has the knowledge of how to care for it they can be almost any size. If you are shipping the larger the better
