    Bad Zoo!!!

Well, I work at my local zoo and today when i went into the Animal Kingdom Building, i saw a sad sight. They have a large, probably 8 ft or so RTB, and probably a 4 ft Blood Python in the same cage!!! There were also 2 different kinds of turtles in there that both looked dead because the RTB was laying on them! And I know that I take better care of my BP than they do theres. They have one heat lamp in 30g with a screen top and terrible humidity that takes the snake a few days to totally get all the skin off after he starts. They dont even provide a humid hide for him or give him soaks. All that is in his cage is a shoebox hide and a waterbowl. Overall its a good zoo but they could make a few improvements.

yeah, up here there is a zoo that does the same thing. They have this huge, beautiful viewing setup with a twenty foot burmese, a six or seven foot blood, AND a VERY large rock python it together. Blows my mind.

I always thought zoos were supposed to set a good example of how to take care of animals, not the most space savng and cheapest way.

both the national zoo and toledo zoo do this as well... maybe they know something we don't? those are two of the most accredited zoos in the country.

I'm not sure what "accredited" means here...and I have no knowledge of the Toledo zoo...but just during the one year that I lived in the DC area, several different valuable animals at the National Zoo perished for different and sometimes mysterious reasons. The zoo has been under investigation for a number of serious husbandry issues over the years.

So...while it is an awesome place to visit, it does not come close to living up to the reputation it has. Which is unfortunate, because it should be the premier zoo in the country.
