Ok, I realize this is going to sound strange, but, I have a hingeback tortiose, who my vet says is a female. I have had her for about 16 years. When I got her, the pet store I bought her at was unable to give me very much information about her care and didn't know exactly what kind of hingeback she is. They practically gave her to me because when anyone picked her up she would go in her shell and not come out, she did, however, come out for me.
She and I have kind of figured out her care through trial and error and with my exotic vets help (he can't identify her either)
If I post a picture do you guys think you could give it a guess? I'm trying to figure out if my hobbled together care for her is what she really needs. She hasn't grown at all since I got her, but she is heavier. Her mouth and tongue look good, her skin looks good, she eats very well. Can you help? Oh, I feed her every other day, 70% vegetables, 30% fruit. Is that good or should she be fed every day? I soak her once a week if she does not deficate on her own.
