    Question incense or candles?

OK, I have another question. I have a friend who has tons of birds and cant burn candles or incense because of the birds. Would that hold true with snakes also, or it is ok to burn candles and/or incense with a snake in the house?

    Re: incense or candles?

Hmmmm....I don't know. Personally, I wouldn't do it. Maybe a really mild candle, but I wouldn't burn incense at all around my critters. Heck, I even got nervous having the carpet cleaned last week....it smelled nice, but I'm like "what about the snakes???" LOL (I closed their bedroom doors and didn't have those rooms cleaned.)

Yeah. Personally I don't simply because I don't want to potentially harm them in some form or fashion, but that's just me. I don't even spray perfume in my room.

    Re: incense or candles?

I don't know, I never really thought about it, although I never burn either one anywhere near the snake. I wonder about teflon pans too. I know a guy who accidentally let a teflon pot boil dry and the fumes killed all of his finches.

    Re: incense or candles?

I wouldn't. I was reading on another forum a while back and some one had aksed if they could smoke weed and burn incense around there snakes and a person responded withe answer no because anything with lungs is affected by both. I am not sure about the candle though.

    Re: incense or candles?

Yeah thats pretty much what I figured. I guess I just wanted to hear from other folks as well before I decided to throw out my incense and candles.

I have candles and incense, mind you they are not close to my cages at all, and I have not had any issues.

    Re: incense or candles?

I've burned candles and copious amounts of incense (bulk/loose, not stick). The thing you need to be aware of is what is in the incense. Some companies will use cedar and pine bases and add oils to them. This could be harmful as could candles with those scents in them. Do the research on what you are using and you should be fine.

    Re: incense or candles?

I have birds, and I do burn candles and incense, but in a different room with the door shut.

    Erik,
You are quite right. Anyone who has birds should not have any teflon pans, when teflon heats to a certain degree (I dont' remember what it is right now) it gives off a gas that will immediatley kill any bird in the area. The pan does not have to be overheated for this to happen.
