    Delta Shipping?

Has anyone shipped a snake useing Delta? Is it a good company for shipping reptiles? Ive heard that they only ship directly to airports.

    Re: Delta Shipping?

While I have not used Delta Dash.. it seems to be the shipper of choice for more expensive animals. Being shipped airport to airport skips the risky bumping along in a delivery truck phase.. and potentially being in a very cold or hot environment for extended periods of time.

It's one downside (though minor really) is the increased cost of the service.. I believe you must be certified to ship live reptiles through delta dash too (much like Fedex)

I have never shipped using Delta Dash but i have recieved a snake through DD.

Yes, it is airport to airport. You pick it up at the delta front counter or a designated area. It costs about $75. The snake i recieved was shipped in the morning and got to me at my airport about 4 hours later in perfect condition.

    Re: Delta Shipping?

I would never accept a shipment from Delta in this area. I know of one incident where several snakes were shipped and they arrived almost dead due to a delay from the Atlanta hub, and apparently the box was placed in an unheated area for cargo.

I've always had great luck with FedEx and even UPS has been okay.

I think with any courier company, a lot depends on your area.

    Re: Delta Shipping?

UPS does not knowingly ship snakes.

I've recieved several snakes by Fedex and it's been perfect.

    Re: Delta Shipping?

I ship Delta all the time. Delta (as well as any of the other air freight carries that accept snakes) is an excellent option for cutting down transit time. I can typically get packages to the West Coast in 1/2 of the time it takes with FedEx ... Also, Delta (air cargo in general) is the ONLY option when shipping outside of the US.

It's well known that when shipping Delta, Atlanta is a trouble spot. But, if you pack your animals well and do things to make your boxes stand out, you can safely get animals through Atlanta.

Delta is an airport to airport service that you have to apply to become a "verfied shipper" for. Unlike FedEx, you don't need to send in a box, but you do need to allow a Delta represenative to come out and inspect your facility. They want to confirm that you will be shipping reptiles and not "something else".

    Hope this helps.

You also need to guarantee that you will be shipping at least 6 times per year. I'm not sure if they revoke your privileges if you don't meet that number. I didn't get verified because I am not shipping a lot yet.
