My friend lost her snake..

My friend from work has a pueblan milk snake baby (her only snake, she's a tarantula person with around 70 Ts)

Anyway, she switched to another kind of lid for her tank, and the snake got out. She wanted me to ask you guys how to get the snake back. My first thought is some sort of 'trap' or lure.. a pinky and a heating pad? How do you trap the snake though?

I've heard masking tape works pretty well. Place it sticky side up along walls and doorways, and they will get stuck if they run across it. To remove it, rub with cooking oil.

Hm.. I suppose that could work. The problem is my friend has cats and I don't know if they might kill the snake if they saw it.

Not a good idea IMO..my daughters snake got out, he was found in our basement (her room is on the 2nd floor), along the cieling, stuck to tape..duct tape in fact, from all his struggling, he had scale damage.

Hmm... perhaps she can set up a trap using the masking tape in a box or tube that a cat can't get into? She might want to tape the tape into the box so that the snake can't slip out. They actually sell similar snake traps out there on the internet somewhere.

I was going to mention that I've read people recommend masking tape over duct tape because of that very problem. I didn't think it was worth mentioning until now.

*cough cough* sounds like mine...except there are multiple snakes and one cat

I've cooled my apartment before and left one room warm, but it's much easier for me to do that to "lure" a snake out than it would be if i had a house.

Warmed Kritter Keeper with a pinky lure? Maybe cover it with black paper to make a "nice hiding spot"?

I don't think the flour trick will work with the cats around.

Well, one suggestion that I've read is to put down plastic bags on the floor so that at night you can hear it "crinkling" when a snake crawls over, but I imagine that would be a fine cat lure too! You'd have to sleep very light to beat the cat to it.

Well the T room (where the snake is kept) is the warmest room of the house.. it also has lots of little places to hide! I'll throw out some of those suggestions to her.. see if it will help.
