In Kevin's (NERD) book "the complete ball python" he makes a point to say that it really doesn't matter whether you feed in the cage or out. If someone is trying to make an arguement that feeding in the cage conditions them to think they are getting fed every time you go into the cage to do normal maintenence, one could make an equally convincing arguement that the snake would expect food every time it was removed from the enclosure.
