    It varies from breeder to breeder. It's common to include the year of hatching, the morph/species, and the gender.

    When I bought my granite burmese python his ID was 05graM2 (2005 granite male number two)

    I usually use the DOB/MORPH or Species/Gender/001, 002, 003, etc.
    05_DHG_M_002 (2005/DH Ghost/ Male/ #002).
