    Another milestone.

The last four days Q has been going through another shed so I've been working to keep the humidity up in her enclosure. I've been doing the same routine when I notice the signs of the impending shed, misting the cage daily, covering the screen top with a damp towel to hold the humidity better...etc...but no matter what her shedding cycle so far has been spotty and shes been shedding in pieces.

Well today while doing my cage cleaning rounds I made it to her enclosure, removed her hides for a bit of spot cleaning, and found a complete shed laying next to her! I would have to say that pretty much made my day! Its been hard to really notice her true colors after sheds because of the spot sheds so far, but her colors were just popping today and she's got so much blushing its crazy.

I'm not sure what really attributed to the success of her shed this time around, but I know before this cycle I switched the bedding over from cypress mulch to shredded aspen which for me has been holding the humidity in the cage much better.

Just thought I would share my joy...Thanks for reading

Oh congrats Jason! It's always nice to get a complete shed isn't it.

I'm wondering, you've had Q for about 3 or 4 months right? I'm just remembering someone on the forum telling me that sometimes it takes a few months for a snake to get over it's previous husbandry. Maybe you are just seeing your hard work paying off here with Q.

That's awesome Jason. Good Husbandry is some what like preventative medecine. Maintaining a thriving home for Q is what its all about...

The latest addition shed right before he was shipped, its going to be a while before I see one. Hey atleast he ate for me at 4 AM today (take that over a shed)!! !!

    Re: Another milestone.

Thanks all! I was quite thrilled, she still looks bright as can be this morning when I went to turn lights on.
Jo, I have had Q and Shogun for four months so you were right about that. I didn't really know that it could take a buffer period to get snakes used to different husbandry, quite interesting!

Now it's Shogun's turn, he's had two spotty sheds for me, hopefully his next will be clean like hers.

ARamos, It's always good to see new additions with strong feeding responses huh!? Fortunately my two have been strong feeders since I've gotten them...I was told during the winter previous they had gone off feed, but not for me this year.

Again, thanks everyone, now I just have to bulk her up so I can breed her.

    Re: Another milestone.

I wish I could remember the thread it was in Jason but I remember it was back when we got a few adults in and I was worried about getting them shedding perfectly right off the bat. I posted my concerns and was assured that it can take some time for a snake to bounce back from a poor husbandry past. Makes sense really that their bodies need to get good and healthy again and that takes time and decent care.

It took a couple of sheds with Saoirse for instance to get it right (she had a lot of retained eyecaps) as well as Orlah who basically had retained shed from nose to tail poor thing. Took a bit but they both are shedding just lovely now.

    Re: Another milestone.

Brought home a sub-adult mouse from work today to feed Bengal for the second time. Just dropped the mouse in the tank literally ten minutes ago, watched her stalk it, and wham! Currently the mouse is being swallowed...aka second feeding successful! She's got to be the perfect little snake already.

    Day 2- Poop
    Day 4- Eat hopper mouse
    Day 8- Poop
    Day 11- Eat sub-adult mouse

This next time I just have to catch her poop so I can take a fresh sample to the vet for testing.

Congratulations, Jason! I love her name too, it really suits her with her pretty markings! Glad to hear she's settling in well, that's always nice!
