i think im loosing my dog

Im not looking for sympothy or any thing like that but more to let my feelings out so that I dont look weak to my friends at school. They always say to tell some one your feeling that would understand and believe you guy would. So I came home today to find my dog that hasnt ate anything for the 3rd day and can barley walk. Iv had this dog since I was 8 and now im 14 and this is really hard. It seems weird but she was always there for me and I told her everything. I know, weird but true. She was seriously the best dog I have ever had. We had to put the rotwiler to sleep last month for old age which was also EXTREMLY hard. Im gonna go and ill be back later. Thanks and sorry for wasting space

Re: i think im loosing my dog

So sorry to hear it.. I've gone through putting 2 dogs to sleep, and a third was killed by a car. It's never easy. It sounds like it's the time to let him/her go.. you don't want your dog to suffer.

Definately not a waste of space, so sorry to hear of your recent loss. Know that if he is suffering now he will be relieved to go.

Re: i think im loosing my dog

That's always the hardest... I know exactly what you mean, and I keep worrying I'll be in a similar situation soon. My 17 year old cat has shrunken kidneys and is on a special diet right now and we need to give her shots at home every so often. She's seen me through... well, everything. It's a scary surreal prospect losing someone you love that much... and it's sad that your friends might not understand... I honestly can't comprehend how anyone can say "it's just an animal" to someone who's lost or is losing a beloved family member. You sure won't get any of that here... we totally understand. Putting him down is the right thing to do, but it's sure never easy...

it sounds like your dog is only 6 years old... have you been to a vet? it's so hard having a sick pet... it's like having a sick baby

    sending hugs your way!

(and if we aren't here to support each other... then why are we here? - so don't feel you are wasting space or time (((hug))) )

I know just how you feel - our family dog died when I was 12 - as an only child it was like part of me and I was so attached to it. I hope your parents take it to the vet to see if anything can be done. ***Hugs***

Re: i think im loosing my dog

I'm so sorry PJ. I lost a dog I got at age 9 when I was a grown adult, she lived 16 years with me all through my growing up times. She was my bud and knew all my secrets. I bawled like a baby when she had to be put down.

Part of loving our pets is knowing that most of them have shorter lives than we might wish and that we may face this last ultimate decision for them. Your friends are probably just being tough outside but inside they would hurt too if it was their dog.

If there is no hope and your vet cannot give your beloved dog a chance for more good days then please encourage your parents to make the hard but humane choice to let your dog go to her final rest soon. Don't be ashamed of your sadness or think you are wasting forum space....I think most of us have faced the loss of a pet at some point in our lives so we understand.

Re: i think im loosing my dog

No wasted space here. I still get all teared up when I think about the german shepard I had from age 9 to 23. That dog was my best friend for a very long time, so I feel your pain. And a month or so ago, my cat "retard" had a urinary tract infection. They did x-rays to check his kidneys, and found that he's got an enlarged heart, and his hip sockets are destroyed. The Vet said that from the x-rays, the cat shouldn't even be able to walk, let alone run and jump like he does. So, I don't know how much longer he'll be around, because there's no way I'll let him suffer. And I've had him for 10 years. It's never easy.
