    Not sure whats wrong...

Shaddy is a 2 year old(I think) Ball python. He has just finished a shed. Now before the shed i noticed pink on his belly. Yes, yes i know its normal, but this isn't. The scales on the midsection looked brown on the tips and were very dry to the point of flaking. I had just put a heating pad under his tank(on the outside ;0) and thought that might be the cause of the problem. So the shed went ok. He still has what look like sores but its only a single scale..and its brown. Has about 3 of them. Also he still has pinkness on his belly(more on the tail end if anything. I've been using a snake oil called Benson & Sons in hopes that this would help. I just don't know what to do.

Just spent $200+ on a nice new tank, new heating pad and ceramic heat lamp. Also a nice long log for him to hide under.

The temp in his tank is constant 85+ with a baking spot of 90.

The humidity is around high 40's to low 60's.

I fed him 2 large mice on Monday and was going to feed him more on Friday

    Please help.

I am not for sure what is wrong by any means, but could you post some pictures so I can learn once it is diagnosed?

Sounds like scale rot .... I would switch to a clean dry bedding like newspaper and see a vet as soon as possible.

And if your not sure whats wrong.. you don't have to post.. you don't know whats wrong. Even though i really do appreciate it i really just want to know what i should do.

And thanks Adam i think if i don't get an answer soon i will have to take him in. I was just hoping to avoid all that.

Shaddy, I'm no expert, but that looks like scale rot to me (way to call it Adam!). I see a vet trip in your future.

    Re: Not sure whats wrong...

Going to a vet when you first notice something, will always be the best solution. The cost is minimal if you can nip things in the bud, and that definitely looks like it will require a trip to the vet. Make sure to find a vet that has some snake experience, or better yet find one that specializes in them.
