Can I ask what studies you have done or know of that prove this?

    Re: Boa v Ball

From my experience boas are much more active when out of cage and quicker! They are more apt to throw a coil if they're not happy with you than a BP.

A BP has more of a 'small snake' temperament. They are more afraid and apt to ball up if afraid than try to constrict/eat you.

A boa constrictor has the 'big snake' temperament. If they don't like what you're doing, they can do something about it, and they know it.

none. But thats always what ive heard from breeders and what not. My BCI can turn my hand almost purple, and id wager that an adult can do alot more than that.

I notice that the bigger my boa gets the more "attitude"(you could call it) he gets.

    Re: Boa v Ball

Boas never want to sit still.. silly things.

I'm just saying that if a boa wanted to do something to you.. they're more agile and I think have more muscle tone than a bp. Simple fact is they are potentially dangerous animals. Normally they are not aggressive, but.. there's always the possibility.

My little 3' dumerils boa makes my hand turn purple every time I hold him. I have to peel him off (not easily) and I have lovely scale prints on my hands after that.

My more nervous snakes go backwards. I hate it because it makes their scales bend back.

    Re: Boa v Ball

We can go on about this forever! Both BP and BCI have it's pros and cons depending on who you ask. I agree that some snakes are more forgiving with husbandry errors than others, I also think there are more responsible people than others.

Male boas can be kept at around 5-6ft for may many years, can they reach 8ft+, sure! Remember that growth is associated mainly with feeding! The more/larger you feed, the faster/larger your Boa will grow! I feed my adult male boas (3-6yrs old, 4-5.5ft long) a medium rat every 2-3 weeks and they skip 2-3 meals a year, do you think they'll reach 8ft+/25lbs anytime soon? Check back with me in another 10-20yrs!

I'm new to keeping BP's (7 days to be exact), but I've kept Boas and other snakes for years and have enjoyed them immensely. I've got 7ft girls that are as tame as puppies, even after birth they are the calmest creatures alive, it doesn't mean I let my guard down around them at anytime or lay a P/K rat on my chest during feeding day!!

IMO, there is really no such thing as bad snakes, just bad decisions made by owners!

It's like the 14yr old living in his 10X12 bedroom in his parents 2/1 apartment, who just bought 2-3 baby Retics or Burms and is looking for that special Anaconda that fits perfectly in his extra 55gln fish tank. Are these snakes the problem down the road or is it the owner? I have nothing against Giant snakes, if you can keep them responsibly and properly more power to you!

Whatever snake you are thinking about getting, do your homework, do lots of research, take your time, visit a breeder, etc, etc. Ask yourself "can I house, feed and care for this pet properly today and tomorrow knowing those requirements?".

If after doing your homework, the correct answer you came up with is a Corn, Boa or BP…you've picked the right snake for you!
