I feel like a top dog now....

After an incident this morning, I figured that I needed to get a little more oranized with feeding and record keeping. So I made these cool personalized Record Cards and made places to put them one each tub....keeping all the info on my comupter was just not cutting it with all these new snakes...

They were not that hard to make....took about 5 minutes in Word. If you want the template just let me know.

Danged impressive Mr. Hill! LOL All kidding aside Daniel, very nice cards. I need to go out and buy a new printer then I'll have to borrow the template from you. Nice of you to offer it to the forum in general.

I currently keep all my records on the computer but with our printer down and no hard copies (other than saving to disk) I do worry a lot about this very issue.

What are you sliding your cards into?

Is that just card taped on or is that something else?

smooth! i'm still using index cards in a little binder type thing. it's about to explode though with all the cards in it now so i'm gonna have to do some kind of re-organization thing myself.

Spencer: Those are just other index cards taped on. I am going to look for something a little more durable if these start falling apart. But they sould work for now.

Emily: I keep Excel files full of all the info and when they fill up I print them out and store them in a folder. My problem was ....the mess of opening all the files and editing them while I was walking to and from the computer and feeding/cleaning etc.....I figured I would use the cards and just transfer info when they fill up...then toss the cards to save space

Re: I feel like a top dog now....

I know exactly how you feel...as my collection grew, i found it hard to keep track of all of my snakes' activities and such. So, what i did was make cage tags for each snake with it's important info: name, sex, DOB, latin name, and temperament. I had them all laminated as well, to last longer as wellas waterproof. In addition, i bought a composition book and put that month and year on every page, with the days being on each line. That way, i could write down the events for that days activities, such as who shed, who ate/how many, who was breeding, weights, lenghts, and any other pertinent info. It's working great for me, because not only is it help keeping me organized, but i can look back on previous years and compare things such as clutch size, and how fast individuals are growing. The tags on each cage were also especially helpful when someone had to watch my babies when i went on vacation.

    That's a great setup there.
Pretty cool, I figure I should stop keeping my records with magic marker on the inside of my arm.
I like the cards, I love organization in general. I am always thinking of new more efficients ways of record keeping here at Rusty Reptiles, and at aquatic wildlife co. that place is a mess!
