no, ball pythons dont need anything to climb on. they're mostly terrestrial snakes and will still be happy and healthy without something to climb on. if you would like to though it would make the encloser look decoritive and your ball python will climb it.

We put two small pieces of driftwood and plastic plants in our girl's cage and she loves *not* slithering on the floor (rofl).

From what I read and seen, you don't need to have stuff to climb on but if you do, your ball will probably climb around on it, so up to you. =)

They really don't need to climb. BPs are pretty bulky, land-dwelling snakes; if they fall from any height, they can get injured.

I think each snake is different. I've had some balls that won't even look at a branch, and i have some that love to climb...in fact i have a four month old baby that thinks he's a green tree python, the way he sits coiled on the branches!! Just be sure they can support the weight of your snake, and that they are secure.

.....anything that a ball python can climb on is just a tool for escaping

Duchess would rather be travelling vertically upwards than any other direction in the world. You don't "need" to give them something to climb, but they *will* climb anything you give them, so it won't be a "waste" to do so, and it seems to me that it's just another way to give them exercise.

I remember a guy at Petsmart telling me that balls "don't like to climb." I asked him if he'd ever given his balls things to climb on and he said No. WTH?? *eyeroll*
