On the surface, the idea of a FAQ is an attractive one. And in its way, could certainly be a useful tool. But I agree with Zodiac that a FAQ shouldn't take the place of actually answering the questions asked, even if they are (to those of use who've been around for a while) elementary and obvious and have been answered a hundred times already.

Personally, I'm the sort of person who learns one-step-at-a-time. It can be difficult for me to wade through a ton of new information looking for the answer to my one question, and I'm less likely to do that than I am to just ask that one question and hope for an answer I can learn from.

Also, even though we specialize in BP's here, the site is dedicated to reptiles as a whole, and the FAQ would have to be rather broad and vague so as not to contradict husbandry differences between species. (For instance, sand is a no-no for most snakes, but my beardie loves it, so it couldn't say NEVER use sand as a substrate.) All the exceptions to the rules would bog down a FAQ, I think.

And finally, as Zodiac so eloquently pointed out...we're here to discuss. And if we have to type the same basic information out a couple times a week for the new people that come along, that should be ok. There are lots of different ways of doing the same thing, and a lively discussion of the hows and whys that different people use with their animals helps us all to learn something new, even if it was an answer to an "elementary" question.

All that being said, you are NOT stepping over any bounderies to suggest it, and it's not a silly suggestion!
