    Aspen Bedding

    I finally got some aspen bedding, when I feed now do I need to set down some newspaper, I usually just hang to rat in the air with tongs and she strikes.

    As Adam told me "the snake can digest hair and bones..a few small pieces of aspen wont hurt it"

    As long as he doesnt ingest alot of it he will be fine..you can get a piece of newspaper down under the rat though if you would like

    I used aspen for years and never laid down paper.

    A snakes stomach acids have evolved over time to be powerful enough to break down rodent hair, rodent bone, and the celluloid contents of the rodents stomach ... a little bit of aspen won't be a problem.

    If it makes you feel better, go ahead with the newspaper pad thing but really it's not needed. We did it too with Ri when she was younger, more from our nervousness and newness than for the snake's real need of it. After reading so much on the forum and just plain experience and observation we discontinued the practise. Now all our ball pythons, from the youngest to the oldest, feed directly on aspen in their enclosures with absolutely no problems.
