    new additions

my daughter's mouse "Mini" gave birth to 8 gorgeous little pups a couple of weeks ago and they are all alive and doing well. so today we went out and bought her a little man for around the house! his name is "Spot" and he's a white and brindle boy... what a gorgeous guy he is. of course, Mini was immediately interested in having a new friend... who isn't nursing

so they have been running on the wheel together tonight... having a nice time getting to know each other. normally i quaranteen my mice, but he had 'just' come out of their 2 week quarantine... and so i decided to forgo the process this time.

so here's to more pups in the future!

    just had to share

Keep an eye on them. Mini may decide to murder her new hubby. Female mice are horrible creatures. I let a male get his scent in his own personal cage for a few days before introducing females (who are VERY territorial)

    Good luck with the stinkers!

I've had to pick out the bodies about 5 males from the bedding after females butchered them. They leave horrid mangled lumps of flesh.. though sometimes they pick the skeleton clean. Icky.

    oh gross!

i've never had a male kill a female or vice versa. i used to breed mice for an owl sanctuary... so i had a lot of tanks of mice... had some females kill their pups but not even many of those.

how many mice were in the tank? was there any overcrowding?

Pick the skeleton clean? So they'd eat them?? I didn't think mice were cannabalistic. They sound like trained killers to me. I don't know what kind of mice you have, but I'll stay away.

    Re: new additions

honestly i have never heard of a female killing a male... but that's just my experience. males however, will beat each other up and even kill each other which is why i'm asking how many males and how many females were in the drawer. i have never heard of them eating each other though...

but then, i never keep more than one male per tank.

    Re: new additions

I never have more than one male in a drawer. It was 1.6 mice in a BIG drawer. Yes, picked clean. They'd eat the insides and leave the skin and skeleton.
