    Ovulation?

I've seen some of my guys rest in some wierd positions, but for this time of year, I was just wondering if this is what to look for when looking out for ovulations.

Laying on her side is a good sign, but when you finally see an ovulation, you won't have to ask.

Your snake will look like she swallowed a foot ball ... and that is NOT an exaggeration.

Have you started warming them back up yet?

    Re: Ovulation?

I haven't officially dialed the stat back to regular temps, but I'm not using a controlled room, and the weather outside has been unseasonably warm....so I didn't really know what to look for. The thing is, this girl I'm probably going to give the year off, the girl I have paired up has not shown any behavioral signs like this.

In any event, I guess I'll know it when I see it! thanks Adam!

So she hasn't been with a male? If she hasn't been bred, then she cannot ovulate.

Has she eaten recently? ... I've seen females do that in the off season after a meal or when they are trying to get extra heat. That behavior isn't exclusive to breeding season/follicular development.

Really? I always had thought that they'd ovulate regardless, but unless they had had a successful copulation, they wouldn't become gravid.

so i guess my next question is, how does their body know to ovulate? (kinda rhaetorical I guess...)

They build follicles up to a certain point regardless ... without stimulation from a male and copulation, the follicle growth stops and they are reabsorbed ... once the follicles get past a certain size, there is no going back and ovulation will occur. The "when" depends on several factors including (but not limited to) stimulation or lack of stimulation from a male or males, last copulation, and temperatures (ie. warm up). IMO, females also seem to be able to control when they ovulate to some extent ... I have a large number of girls that seem to ovulate on or around the same date every year that they are bred regardless of the factors mentioned above.
