    Ball ython - Scale Question

A few days ago as I was holding my girl, I noticed a scale flipped up which I thought was a distorted one from a mouse bite or something form the petshop. It turned out to be ticks. I picked 3 ticks off her and killed 3 mites. I have already ordered a can of Provent-A-Mite the night i found them.

My next worry is her scales. As she slithers around you, you can feal small snags from her scales in areas, she'll move and its gone. Although in a few areas you can rub the opposite flow to the scales and a few come up a little. Is this a signt hat she may be starting to shed in the near future or something?

    Thank you in advance

Also, The "rough" spots I've noticed seem to be on her sides between her white bottom and where it joins the coloring

Are the scales discolored? Does her belly have an odor? How are you housing her and what are the temps and humidity? How are they measured? How long have you had the snake?

No, Not discolored, its just a few areas in the place where the white form her belly and the gold from her back start to fade to each other.

    I smell no odor

She is currently in a 10gal tank, screen top, with heat lamp, a water bowl, 2 hides, bark bedding and a under tank heating pad on the warm side. The air temp at the moment is 83 degrees and the humidity is 72(which will fall to about 45 in about an hour and I'll have to spray again) I'm using a dual guage Zoo Med.

Can you post a picture? It's not possible to give a definitive answer over the internet. If you are really concerned, your best bet is a good herp vet.

If there's not discoloration you can probably rule out belly rot, but that leaves little else off the top of the head. You may want to treat the mites and wait for a shed to see if this scale isssue disappears. I'm at a loss really, so my best advice would be to see a vet. Sorry.

Thanks. I cant post a pic because its too small for my camera to really focus on. I can just explain it as a small bit of her scales are poking up a little.

Also, can somone explain "star gazing" to me? My snake will wrap around her water bowl, and just look up at a 35 to 45 degree angle and sit there for a little while.

OK at first reading your descriptions of whats happening with your snake i was going to say its a very bad shed due to the mites. Now i read your last post of wich i quoted has me concerned. When you say she sits thier for awhile is it like a hour? A half hour? Does your snake have any strength? What i am asking is when you handle her does she grasp around your arm? Does she move freely while your holding her? Does her tongue flick in and out alot? How is her skin tone? Is her skin real saggy like a deflated ballon? If any of your answer to my questions is no i.e strength, flicking of tongue or if her skin is very saggy.I recommend you take her to a vet as soon as possible. The members of this site including myself can only speculate what might be wrong with her,but we can not see her to be able to make a correct evaluation of whats wrong with her. Please keep us posted

No, she'll sit and look up for about 5 minutes, untill something catches her eye(usually me spying on her to see is doing) She doesnt even stay out of her hide an hour. When holding her she moves around ALOT. Tounge flicks alot. She can hold herself up when stretched out off my arm aswell. Her skin isnt really saggy. I mean shes round in shape and such she looks fine. I can take more pics if these do not tell enough.
