    My friend rescued 2 bps..

What do my wondering eyes stumble upon at my friend's pet store? Two horribly neglected BPs. She bought them along with a huge reptile tank from a moron who was grossly neglecting them. Both have horribly retained skin, and the male has two retained eyecaps.
The female, I swear, is skin and bones. Her stomach is almost completely hollow. I swear I started crying when I saw her. The male was not as bad off, but both of them were riddled with more ticks than I could believe.
I coached her on what to do.. she has soaked them and got most of the skin off. The male actually took two sm. rats on his own, but the female, my friend ended up forcefeeding. I didnt think she should, but I watched as she pried the snake's jaws open and put the sm. rat about halfway in. Then an amazing thing happened; the female started swallowing on her own.
Both of them are doing pretty well after a few days!

Take heart. One of my BPs was a rescue too, in similar circumstances. He's now a healthy, beautiful snake and much loved member of my family. Well done to your friend for taking on these two BPs.

That would technically be assisted feeding much less stressful for the snake too. Hopefully once those horrible ticks are gone and they are in warm humid surroundings getting fed properly they will recover. Poor poor thigns, why people do that to helpless pets.

Re: My friend rescued 2 bps..

Mis-information and no information are the usual culprits. I work at a pet store, reptile specialty, and see a lot of customer's animals. Usually, people are just so ignorant that they THINK their animal is healthy, when in reality it is far from. Many don't keep their animals at the right temperatures, and when I ask what the temps in the cages are, they often don't even have a thermometer. I thought i would get used to seeing neglected animals after some time, but quite the contrary is happening- my patience wears thin on these individuals, especially considering the wealth of good information in books, the internet, and at public libraries.

Good looking out on that rescue situation. Chances are they will bounce back with some TLC. Keep us posted.

What a wonderful person your friend is! I hope they get better - sounds like they are progressing well already - especially the poor female.
