    more of my brilliant ideas

Hey guys .. well as im waiting for my other thermostat and UTH to come in .. the cool side temps drop way to low 73 or so at night so i decided to use a regular blow dryer to up the temps its been 2 nights so far with Eve both night the temps stayed pretty low. I figured she would stay in the warmer hide during the night but i guess shes not that bright. i positioned the blow dryer further way and the warm air doesnt hit directly the enclosure it hits the clothes wrapped around the enclosure on the cooler side of the viv.. i thought it warm clothes could insulate the heat. I dont want the Fan to hit the wall of the enclosure because it seems to boost the temps up to 90 easily but that might just be my thermometer recieving direct hot air. Ill turn on the fan during the night but before that im going to run a few more experiments to make sure everything is correct. Sometimes i feel like im running a hospial bed .. i have like 5 units working to monitor the poor girl.

You could go to Walmart, Kmart, Target, Walgreens, CVS, etc and get a few heating pads to get those temps up. Normally I'm not a big fan of using them to heat cages because they are prone to hot spots, shorting out, and even catching on fire, but with temperatures that low your snake runs a very high risk of getting a respiratory infection so even though you'd have to watch the setup very carefully, it might be worth it for the sake of your snakes health.

Also, I would not feed that animal until you correct the temps and let them stabilize for at least a week. Otherwise, you could run the risk of creating a puker.

If you say so boss ... I guess I'm just different. If it were my snake, I wouldn't be able to wait until Thursday or Friday or whenever the supplies are going to get there ... I'd have to provide the correct environment immediately. I guess I'm just uptight like that.

    Good luck with that.

im exactly the same way .. but at this point i already payed for them so its too late to run and grab anything, i lowered the hum to 44 .. im just honestly praying that in the end result once i get everything set up she will be fine. I want to stay away as far as possible from those EVIL words "RI"

Re: more of my brilliant ideas

Why not go and grab a heating pad, like Adam suggested. Not as a primary heating source but to increase your temps now, and you'll have it as a backup if the UTH ever fails. They're not terribly expensive and would definitely pay for themselves if you can avoid a vet bill for an RI!

If you want to stay as far from an RI as possible you have to raise those temps. Every hour they stay that way, the higher your chance of getting one.

I doubt it, but you can always call and ask.

Those temps are SO important. I think you can pick one up for like $10. (I think) It's such a small amount when compared to a couple hundred if you end up with an RI. I really think it would be worth it.
