Internal Heat Shroud

I am buying a AP Cage for my ball python, Jackson. One of the options is a internal heat shroud. Has anyone had any experience with them? I am getting the belly heat option and a flourscent light (more for me than Jackson).....thanks

I've not heard of that. Do you have a link to it? As long as you have the belly heat you should be good.

The heat shroud is for raising the ambient temps...

Those cages are so well insulated that the belly heat does in fact sufficiently raise the ambient air temps. I ran belly heat on both of my AP cages and had great results. The trick with those cages is where to place the probe for the thermostat. You might have to do some trial and error type tweaking.

Yes as long as your ambient room temps are in check..Mine are 85 so I dont need any type of overhead heating...

all i know is that don't get a heat pad. My friend had a heat pad for his ball and it got very sick and couldn't breathe.( he only had a heat pad)

Under tank heaters are great for ball pythons. Human heat pads and unregulated UTHs can lead to burns. Also, sometimes UTHs do not provide adequate ambient air temperature in an enclosure and a secondary source is required to maintain proper temps. But how did the heat pad get the snake sick and not allow it to breathe? Please explain because I don't see how that relationship can be made.....if the snake was sick, it was most likely a husbandry error and not the UTHs fault.

I'm guessing he's all mixed up and, I'd speculate, that the UTH wasn't raising the temperature suffieciently and the snake got a RI (couldn't breathe).

I made a cage to go around a ceramic heat emitter on the inside of the cage, and it doesn't get too hot. I'm not sure if you need one, but if you do get one, just make sure the shroud is far enough away from the heat emitter so that it doesn't get hot.
