    Need Heating Help...

I need help heating a 3 x 2 x 1 cage. I'm deiffinately going to be using Flexwatt to heat it but I need a really cheap t-stat that will still stay consistant. Thanks for the help.

Look on www.mgreptiles.com and look at his t-stats. Cheap really isn't the way to go when you are looking at t-stats. You're talking about the life of an animal. I know from personal experience... I got one of those Big Apple Herp t-stats(look like ALife) and the temps fluctuated so much I just decided to use a dimmer. It was ridiculous. The temp was set to 94 and it fluctuated between 82+- to around 90+-. Stupid thing. Now I have a Herpstat 2 and couldn't be happier.

If you want cheapER, go with that ZooMed ReptiTemp 500R. It should be able to keep your temps where you want them without the risk of a blow-out like the Alife's are prone to. I don't have any personal experience with the Zoomeds but I know a few people around here do.

Well these would be only for a short time until I can afford some of the more expensive ones.
By wya, I emailed Matt. I'll be awaiting his reply.

    Re: Need Heating Help...

Either last week or week before that he had the Ranco units on sale for $65. I grabbed one to replace the ZooMed piece of garbage I had. Don't make the same mistake I did and waste $35 on inferior equipment. You don't want to mess around with the temps.

Right now he has the Johnson units on sale:

    Re: Need Heating Help...

You cant beat a Johnsons for sure.. The zoomed stats are a good little stat for roach colonies, backup units and like you said "till thens" but in the long run the price will pay for itself over and again since you will not have to keep replacing the thermostat and animals

The "till thens" means after I get back from my reletives after Christmas. I just need something to keep the Flexwatt from overheating while I'm gone for a week.
