I can't say for sure as I have never been to New Jersey but, the weather in Jersey should not be a problem. I live in NW Ohio and it gets very cold here, in fact it is 9 degree's outside right now. Anyway, according to the Ohio Div. of Wildlife, Ohio has 30 species of snakes native to Ohio. The snakes here hibernate over the winter and re-emerge again in the spring. One of my favorite things to do is to go out field herping in the spring and watch for and take notes on these wonderful reptiles as they "wake up" to a new spring. If you have not had the opportunity to do so, I would recomend giving field herping a try. It's nice to get out and observe snakes in their natural habitat. Just be sure to do a little research on what snakes are native to your area and proper field herping practices for your saftey and the saftey of the snakes.
