cat and BP
i know cats and snakes dont mix, so ever sense i got my BP i made a good effort in keeping my cat away from my BP. however i knew that when i was at work or sleeping, my cat was sneeking peeks. lately at night, around midnight i put towels around my tank to keep my cat out of sight of my BP. However i have noticed something. It used to be that if my BP was out of her hide, and my cat apeared she would shy away and ether return to her hide or stop moving all together. lately i have noticed that she doesnt pay any attention to my cat. I have seen my cat and snake come face to face ( snake still in cage of course ) and its like the snake knows that the cat is not a threat while she is in her cage. even when i have her out, my cat being courious is always watching from a far and i keep a water bottle handy to keep her away. I have seen my snake continually go towards my cat and show no sign of being nervous when the cat is not far away. Could this just be a sign of my snake getting larger (30")and not fealling threatened as much as before? also getting very used to her surroundings, human, and that furry black and white creature that is always watching from a far? what have others noticed who also have other curous pets around.

I think it's the same when we approach their cage and they stop shying away. It's just another part of their routine. (cat go by....cat go away....human go by....human go away) I still would be very hesitant to allow a cat in the same room, and I would never let them get too close. (but that's just me )

tig, dont worry. i dont let the cat close. the only time she really gets in close contact with the snake would be when the snake is still in its cage. this is when the cat ussualy saunders by the cage and sneeks a peek before i get after her with the spray bottle LOL. Lately i have been observing to see what the snake does when this does happen. Now During the day the cat doesnt pay any attention to the cage because she has also got used to the snakes routine. anytime between 9 and 10 pm the snake ventures out of her cool hide and most times the cat is already sitting on the chair waitting. its kind of ammusing to watch at times. then around midnight i cover the cage, but the cat still sits there watching with her ears fixed on a certian location in the cage. LOl she may not be able to see what the snake is doing, but i sure bet she can hear her every move.

and remember as well... if they did meet in person and the cat tried something... your snake would tag her so fast!
my cats have a great respect for our cockatiels, who beat them with their wings if they get too close, our bearded dragons who blacken their beards and the cats run away when they 'charge' them... so with our snake, i know our cats will keep their distance as they've learned from experience that the other 'pets' which reside here don't tolerate their 'bad' behaviour!

Re: cat and BP
I had a minor incident the other day with one of our cats. I was feeding Kinky, my fully grown RTB, and it was taking her a bit (always does). Anyway, my cat was stowed away in my room, and my roomy had just taken her cat into her room for a nap.
Well, long story short, I guess my roomy's cat was being a pain, so she just opened the door and let it out into the living room... where it runs right into a snake in feeding mode! Kinkers didn't do anything (she just kinda stared at the cat like, "Oh, hey, wanna share this big honking rat?") but I was SO angry. I yelled at the cat to get away, and, then, when I tried to grab her, she runs. I had to yell at my roomy to get up to help me catch her.
And, before I'm preached at, I feed Kinky out of her enclosure because of her kinks. She gets in very odd positions, at any time, but even worse ones when she's feeding. She stretches out fully, and then will contract suddenly and strangely... it's very odd to watch. So, I like to give her extra space to do her thing.
From now on, though, both the mongrels are being put in the closet!

Get this, my boyfriend has a pet rat, Acid, which we keep in a cage not more that two feet from Bauhamat's cage. Acid doesn't seem to know the snake is there, but Bauhamat watches Acid at least once a day, it's kind of funny. And no, they are never out of their cages at the same time, Bauhamat is just a baby, and Acid is a VERY large rat.

You don't have to go all that far! We have one in Toledo, Ohio. Heck, its a dinner and a floor show in there. I don't know about the one you went to but ours here...well, my sister in law refers to it as 'Sea World'. You figure it out.
