    Re: Snake Mites

The No-Pest Strips are good if you want a dead snake.

Wipe Out is for BACTERIA. It is used to sanitize the enclosure, not to get rid of mites. Provent-A-Mite is your best bet and you will probably only have to fog the enclosure once or twice to fully eradicate the mites and their eggs. The canister of PAM(not the cooking spray) lasts quite awhile, so your money is well spent.

    Re: Snake Mites

If you try the No-Pest Strips, you will likely have a dead snake in the morning, or one going into convulsions because of neurologic impairment. Not good.

The Provent-A-Mite, when used CORRECTLY as per the instructions on the canister, will safely get rid of any and all mites and their eggs. I really, REALLY would like to stress the word SAFELY.

I am not going to condone the use of these No-Pest Strips, and I hope you will do the same. Your animals will thank you for it.

How was I not clear in my explanation of using Provent-A-Mite? You take everything out of the enclosure, put down newspaper, and plastic hides, fog the enclosure, wait a good solid hour or two, and then replace the snake. Do not replace any of the decorations, and replace the normal waterbowl with an easily cleaned, smaller waterbowl. What I was saying about the canister lasting a long time is that it is a good sized canister, and since you should only have to fog the enclosure 1-2 times, your money is well-spent as you still have quite a large amount of PAM left in the canister.

I realize that you just want to get rid of the mites, but going about it cheaply(and dangerously, I must admit) is not going to solve your problem. Your snakes could have neurologic damage or even die from the use of the No-Pest Strips. Why take the risk?

    Just my $2.50...

    Re: Snake Mites

OK i'll get the Provent-A-Might you was clear on the way to use it im just scared of using stuff i haven't used before. I'll scratch the Pest Strip out of my head and i'll stick with using the right stuff for the problem. I called they guy i bought the snake off of again and he still can't believe he still has mites. Should i ask for my money back on the snake and hand him the snake it's been about a week so i think im stuck with the snake. But it don't bother me because the snake is beatiful and i just love this colors and everything. Thanks Aaron P.S. how does this take care of the mites that are on the snake?

    Re: Snake Mites

I would just stick it out with treating the snake. He/she is probably better off with anyone other than the previous owner. It would just be more of a hassle(IMO) to get your money back, than just to treat the snake and be done with it.

Provent-A-Mite works through chemical innervation(meaning it chemically kills the mites). You must NOT get any of it on the snake itself, just follow the instructions on the spray canister when you get it, and it should be very clear on how to go about it. You're going to have to use newspaper for substrate or white paper towels so you can easily see the mites, and the mites won't have much to live in. Clean the cage everyday, change the substrate and clean the hides and waterbowl. A bleach water solution is a good idea. I would use the plastic planter saucers from WalMart as hides for now(they are good hides at anytime regardless), but just for the ease of cleaning.

Maybe someone a little more experienced can explain how it kills the mites on the snake. I have never personally used the Provent-A-Mite as I have never had a need for it, but hopefully someone who has can help.

    Re: Snake Mites

Get the Provent-A-Mite anyway, hun. You brought mites into your house and will probably get the rest of your collection infested. This is why quarantining, especially boa constrictors from non-reputable sources, is very important. During this quarantine period(3 months usually suffices) in a separate air space(different house) you can rule out intestinal parasites as well as external parasites such as the mites you experienced.

Get the Provent-A-Mite as you had planned, fog everyone's enclosures as per the instructions on the canister, as well as lightly fog the carpet in every room. This will help prevent the spread of the mites.

I'm glad I'm fortunate enough to be able to quarantine Ruari for 3 months at my Veterinary Technician school. If anything unexpected pops up from the stress of being shipped, at least he will be contained in a separate air space away from my current collection. You can just never be too careful(or in my case, anal retentive out the wazoo, LoL).

Hope this has helped a bit.
