Only in Canada!
Well it's flu and cold season and living in Michigan now I don't have to suffer the agonies of the traditional Canadian flu/cold/sore throat remedy.....BUCKLEY'S MIXTURE!!! *shudder, shudder, gag, shudder, gasp*
For those Canadians of the forum that got grabbed by their parents as kids and had Buckley's Mixture poured down your throat...my deepest condolences. For those of us brave enough to take it willingly as adults...I saulute you! LOL The stuff is truly gawd awful....sort of a wierd greyish color, the consistency of stuff you can't even bare to think about and tastes something like sucking on a pine tree. Takes your breath away, burns like the fires of hell but for some unknown reason the stuff works.
My theory has always been that your body is so afraid you'll pour even more of this stuff down your throat that it immediately works to get better!
Here's a quote from the son of the man who invented Buckley's Mixture and also their website. You have got to check out the photo's of people's faces after they swallow Buckley's down.
"I have recurring nightmares in which someone gives me a taste of my own medicine. My father developed it back in 1919 when people expected medicine to taste like, well, like medicine. Frank Buckley Toronto, Ontario"
http://www.buckleys.com/ (see the Your Pictures section..it's a hoot!)
Only in Canada would we have a company that actually uses the motto "It Tastes Awful. And it Works" LOL They used to have a TV ad where the actor had a spoonful of Buckley's then screamed! Too funny!

Re: Only in Canada!
Well one of the tricks is to pinch your nose tight so you can't smell the gawd awful stuff (also when you can't smell something you actually can't taste it quite as much) and then follow it with a big tablespoon of warmed honey...helps...sorta...a bit....LOL

Yep that's the sound except for the quietly, under your breath (when you get it back that is) curses to the gods and the man who invented the stuff!
Works though!

Re: Only in Canada!
Man, you guys are making it sound like it's liquid death, lol. I honestly don't find it all that bad. I don't take it often, but when I do, it's like "meh...weird taste...oh...its gone already". We have a fresh bottle sitting in the kitchen right now that my mom was taking to fight her cold. Kicked it fast too. Their slogan is true. Tastes awful, and it works. I liked their older slogan though..."We're number 1, but we taste like number 2".
But yeah, doesn't taste that bad to me. I just don't like what it looks like...*shuts mouth*

Re: Only in Canada!
Ack never look at it! Looks like....well I'm not saying but looking at it and smelling it make it taste worse (if that's possible).
Actually my ex-husband loved the stuff and actually *gag* licked the spoon! How wierd is that! LOL The first time I ever took Buckley's he gave me some at his dad's house as I was sick as a dog with a sore throat. I nearly died trying to swallow that stuff, maintain my dignity and not have my future father-in-law think badly of me for spewing it back all over his clean kitchen floor!
