    Re: Humidity TOO high

How does the coconut bark feel (i.e. is it damp?)? Because the humidifier got your enclosure to such a high humidity, the bark may have absorbed alot of moisture. It may take a while for the moisture to evaporate out of the bark and lower the humidity. I would just keep an eye on the humidity....if that is the case, it will probably drop by the morning. If the problem persists tomorrow evening, I would do away with the bark and just use the newspaper...that should knock down the humidity a good bit.

Is that coconut "husk"...man that stuff is a pain. Throw it out. Junk. Use Repti-Bark or Forest Floor if you want a substrate. Red Tails do better on newspaper or paper towels. I use old hand towels and such and just switch'em out and reuse them.

    Re: Humidity TOO high

The absolute easiest thing to put holes in sterlite is a soldering wand. We got ours from WalMart for $10.00. Just use it in a well ventilated area.

You might try finding out what the humidity is in the room the snake is in. If that room is very humid or has really poor air exchange it just makes sense that it's going to be extremely difficult to get your sterlite's humidity down to 50 to 60% if the room itself is sitting way higher than that. That's the first thing I'd look at and see if you may need to adjust the room itself or move the snake's tub elsewhere.

Also try going with just newspaper for a few days and see what difference it makes. Depending on how deep your substrate is you might want to turn it over a bit as it makes sense that if it's really deep it could feel dry on top but actually be trapping a fair bit of moisture down deeper.
