Ok, this is odd but as a the wife I had to convince the husband to let me have mine. At first I don't think he thought I was serious, but after much talking (and much negotiation - I'm not above all out bribery since it works so well with the kids) I was able to get one. Then a couple months later got my second, and now I have 3 more on the way. Start with the sitdown talking, and maybe even take her to a reptile show. Maybe consider adding a bonus, backrubs for a month or dishes or something. Good luck!
