These terrible things are still sold here in the UK too I'd never use one of these. Our little snakes (Cornsnakes and Milksnakes) are on heat mats which are thermostatically controlled. Our Boas and our Royals have ceramic heat lamps which have safety guards round them and are also thermostatically controlled. Here's Byron's viv (with him showing off for the camera again LOL). You can see the ceramic bulb is safely behind bars!!!




I'd never have anything that could be even remotely dangerous to my snakes.
