    Low Temp still

After trying almost everything I can think of I still cant get my cool end temp up. It sits at between 73-75. I know that its too cool but I dont know what to do. My warm end is at 90. I have a 20g long tank with a screen top with aluminum foil covering part of it. I have a 12"x11" peice of flexwatt connected to a Zoo Med 500R thermastat. I an extra peice of flexwatt. Please help. I know that the low temp isn't healthy.

Those temps are a recipie for a respiratory infection.

I hate to be the one to say it, but the zoo med t-stat is garbage. I'd rather use a dimmer than that thing.

I would have to say its your thermostat that is causing the problem.. Those tstats are really really low quality...

can you put a small space heater in the room/area that the cage is in? you might have to surround the tank/top with foamboard to get those temps up, until you can get a setup that works correctly.

    Re: Low Temp still

correct me if im wrong(ive never used UTH) but doesnt the UTH only get the suface of the part its under warm and not the air in the cage making the warm end fine but the rest of the cage too cold? ive seen this with my cousins BP, the part where the heat pad was fine but the air temp in the cage was way too cold. he was using a aquarium with a screen top and didnt cover it though

    Re: Low Temp still

I had it on a dimmer but the warm end temp cooled down 3 degrees at night and it wasn't very stable. I cant afford to buy a 100$ thermastat just for one snake and cage. I have the tank insulated. What about putting a small part of flexwatt with a dimmer on the cool end and keep it at 80. Please help I dont know what to do.

    Re: Low Temp still

if your cool end is 73-75 that means that your room temp is around that too. get your room temps up some, this will help to raise tank temps. if all you can do is more flex with a dimmer that is better than nothing. getting the proper setup and using a thermostat will solve heating issues. there is a good caresheet on this site about using a plastic tub setup.
