    Maude is home!

Maude, the rescue WC from downstate Michigan, arrived here just before 1 p.m. safe and sound (very well packed which was great).

I didn't handle her at all and just gently tipped her from her snake bag into the sterlite. She's cruised in and out of both hides and I peeked in as she was having a nice long drink. So far...so good!

    Now on to the re-naming!

    Re: Maude is home!

There are pics of Maude who has a new name btw (I'll cover that in a moment) in my gallery. They are from her last owner (she's had 2 before us and a pet store and was originally WC)....poor Maude!

She was reported to be about 39 inches long but to my eye looks a bit longer than that. She weighed in just before shipping at 620 grams so is thin looking but not horribly emiciated. She came out of the shipping box and snake bag with little trouble and no hissing or attempt to strike. I just gently tipped the bag and she slid out easy as pie. So far she's had a nice roam around her small sterlite and a peek into both hides. I was lucky enough to see her have a lovely long drink and now she is tucked up sleeping off the trip in her warm hide. She is in a smaller sterlite as it will encourage her to feel more safe and hopefully that will encourage her to begin to accept captivity and eat properly (did I get that right Adam LOL)?

All in all a good start. Mike had her in hand for just a moment for a quick check over. She handled it very well with no attempt to strike or struggle unduely. We won't be handling her much though until we get some feeds down that empty belly. She looks in decent shape. A few scars but all in all a lovely female ball. She's a normal but a different shade then both of the other two girls. Hard to describe but she's lighter than the pics in my gallery show her to be.

We have no real idea how old Maude is. Trying to track down any info on her will be almost impossible but she has a considerably bigger head and body structure than Kyna who is a late 03 hatch.

So on to the naming process LOL....

Baby who was renamed Riona is now properly named Rionach - pronounced
    Ree-in-ock - it means queenly

Punkin who was renamed Keena is now Kyna - still pronounced Kee-na though just the proper Irish spelling - it means love & affection

Maude is now renamed Saoirse - prounounced Sar-sha - it means freedom or liberty and we felt a once wild snake deserved this beautiful name

These names are all Irish and you can hear the proper Irish pronunciation if you wish at this lovely site...

Thanks for all your good wishes for Saoirse. We are hoping she'll do as well for us as Kyna has.
