Stupid Question?

My neighbor has about a 6 month (estimated) old RTB. He had just eaten a rat and crawled into a postion she couldn't get him out of. He had ceawled into a log or something she uses as a hide. So here comes the stupid question. Can snakes get stuck? I would think if it found its way into a hide, it can find its way out.

After reading the forums on what to do it a BP bit, someone said run water on its head. I suggested taking the log to the sink and running warm water on it. I figured if it was uncomfortable it would find a way to leave. I did also suggest making sure the water did'nt pool so she didn't drown her snake.

Well, I suppose a snake could get stuck, but it's quite unusual. They are good at wedging themselves into places..as it makes them feel more secure.

I'd leave the snake alone! -you may just stress the poor thing out and cause it to regurge. Let's say it DID get stuck.. most likely because it just ate! After the food digested, the snake would 'unstick', still I think it's unlikely that it is really stuck.

hhmmm... im not sure about that one, but i think it is highly unlikely. i guess you could try the running water trick and see what happens

She felt she HAD to do something. I directed her to the forums before. We don't have a lot of snake experts up here so I do a lot of research here. I finally went to a pet store today where the guy on the floor seemed knowledgeable about snakes. He used to right terms the right way which impressed the hell out of me. He told he he refused to sell a snake to someone I know because thier children seemed like derelicts, and he didn't think they were mature enough to handle one. You don't see that everyday. He is also the only place that sells frozen mice. So between his product, knowldege and customer service he made a customer for as long as I live here.

If the snake is 'stuck', the warm water idea is not that good. If the snake can not get out, running it under warm water will increase the temperature of the snake and will provide no means of 'unsticking' the animal. If the animal is truely stuck (which I doubt), it will now be 'heated up' from the warm water and unable to lower its temp because it is stuck.

Also, snakes should not be handled for 48 hours after feeding. Handling during this time can cause a regurg and/or severely stress out the animal. If the snake can get in...it can get out....I would just suggest leaving the little one alone and keeping an eye on the situation..a few days in a hide won't kill it.

I agree with the 48 hr stuff. I would have left the snake alone for a few days, but she will not even think of doing that. It gets handle almost directly after feeding all the time. They probably have the most tolerant snake you will ever see. It just utterly amazes it hasn't bitten bitten ot hissed.
