How the heck do you feed "Plus some other stuff"

Okay I leaned that you shouldn't feed you Ball Python in its cage becuase when you reach to get it so you can handle it , it might recognize you hand as food. If you feed it outside of you cage it won't think that whenver something warm go into the cage you can eat it.

The problem is you can't handle your snake after you eat or it might regurgitate.

Also just some info on me. I know I sorta appeared out of nowhere and gave help ,but the truth is I don't have a snake yet. I know alot ,but my parents won't let me have them. I seriously have tried everything short of threatning.

Also how do you prevent the substrate from getting in your snake

If you have any suggestions it would be appreciated (even if I have tried it before ).

I'm not sure how this thread got a 4 star rating when there are no responses?

    That's not true.

Moving your snake carefully is fine.

So feeding in your cage is alright and does not attribute to aggressiveness.

BTW- I added the stars . On other forums it says you can't add stars to your own thread. I just wanted to check sorry

Re: How the heck do you feed "Plus some other stuff"

you only have to worry about your BP recognizing your hand as food if you dont reach in there often. unless you keep it on a loose substrate, then you dont need to take the snake out of the enclosure. i feed both my boas and my burm in cage without a problem. i also use newspaper, so no worry of the snake eating the substrate. i would have aproblem if i fed them out of the cage, as you dont wanna see any of them after feeding, they look at me like food.

no, you cannot handle your snake for at very least 24hrs after they ate. ideally, you want to wait 48hrs. when my snakes eat a big meal, switch to a bigger size, or just have a nice hefty lump, i give them 72hrs to digest. thats just a thing i do though.

to prevent your snake from consuming substrate, just dont feed it on loose substrate, or just dont use loose subsrate.

all i can say about your parents is dont quit trying. i always wanted one and my mom always said no. i didnt stop and looky now, i got 2boas and a burm lol. just try to show them that their not all that bad, their not slimy. try to show them that your really dedicated to them. and dont ask them to pay for anything. lol that wont work. try to bring them to a petstore, and show them the snakes. try and get an employee to get one out so you can hold it. just be sure to explain that the conditions kept in the petstore is crappy (most are, not all though) and be sure that if you can get one, to get it from a reputable breeder.

I'll second their opinions. I feed all 9 of my snakes in cage without a hitch.

As far as convincing your parents.. did you impress them with your extensive snake husbandry knowledge? Did you offer to pay for everything? Insure them that you would take care of everything (ie not getting 'tired' of the snake and making them feed it/take care of it for you)?

I fed 100+ ball pythons in their cages, on aspen chips for many many years without a problem.

yea, but there still is a possibility that it could consume the substrate, didnt say it will.

tried ALL of it. I went to pet store and handled a ball python. They know almost as much as me since I told them so much. I told them I have room and I can afford everything.

They just no its icky and ugly. They keep on telling me to give up. I have gotten grounded for insisting what they call "alot". I still want one. I seriously don't know what to do to prove myself. I think it is also unfair since my brother has a dog which he didn't pay for and doesn't take care of him . He is near my age yet he gets a pet. I also had a cat at one point and took perfect care of him , he was evil though. When we gave him to a pet rescue agency it went straight to the founder and even she gave him up. This is part of why it gets me mad. Sorry if I sort of went off ,but I had to get this off my chest. *releif*(is that spelled right)
