a tstat regulates the heat source by turning them on and off to achieve the desired/set temps. your setup has to be correct also with an adequate heat source for the tank/cage. glass tanks with screen tops lose alot of heat and humidity. you may need to cover the top and get a bigger/smaller heat source.
