For those who know vehicles..
I have an 88 bronco ll, I got it in trade from someone (who was scared of it cause he hit a pole or something while drinking and driving, said he did not feel it was a good vehicle for him seeing as though he was not comfortable with it to begin with) who got it in trade. The orginal owner started restoring it mechanically. It is in great shape, I know I got the better end of the deal because it is in better shape than the vehicle I traded for it (which he knew but just did not want the bronco). I have been driving it up until last week. So far mechanically it is in fine shape, however, when we went to change the tire last week (front passenger side) we could not get the manuel locking hub loosened from the tire/wheel. Parts for this vehicle, for whatever reason are very expensive... I ran across a friend who has an 86 bronco ll. He says the brake lines are rusted, but keep in mind, he really dont know much about vehicles... he is willing to sell the whole thing to me for $150.00. I need alot of cosmetic parts plus the part I mentioned above, then I will be able to get my bronco painted. The engine in the 86 has around 80,000 miles on it, original... and is in great shape... once we pull parts out/off of the 86, we plan on cutting it up and taking it to Milliron (scrap place) to rid ourselves of the rest of the 86, however, I will still have the engine... maybe a spare? or sell it? dont know. I will make the $150.00 back plus by doing it this way, making it cost me nothing to finish my 88, plus throw the cash toward a paint job- with some added to it ofcourse.
So, here is my question, I need to move the 86 to my house, my friend and I live about a mile and a half or 2 at most from eachother, and I still have to go look at it and see if he is right about this thing (says the brake lines are rusted)... if there is brakes, even very little, we can tow it back here.... but without brakes, what do you suggest? My thoughts were to go get the tow hitch ball and put one on my 88, and get a tow bar or tow dolly for the 86...any other ideas? I really dont want to have to buy a tow bar or rent a tow dolly unless I have no other choice, as that takes from my later profit and finishing up my 88. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks!

Re: For those who know vehicles..
Find a friend with AAA and have them tow it for you at no cost. Any road side service would prolly work, you could also get some chain tow it and then when you are where you are at have people there to stop it, or use Emergency Break or put the thing in park lol. That way is very Dangerous and i would go very slow if i were to tow it with no brakes and attempt this. If i did do it i would make sure its on a flat ground level when i tried it so there is no momentum you wouldnt know about. Or you could push it. It would all depend on how bad though brakes are, the pitch of the road, the weight of the car, and the willingness to do it and take risk. I advise you to just be CAREFUL in whatever you do.

My cousin has AAA and they wouldn't do that for me when I got my Mark VII stuck on very large rock (don't ask) this spring. All they would have had to do was lift the front of the car up and roll it back, but I ended up having to pay some tow guy 90 bucks for 3 minutes of work, plus he almost rolled my car onto its roof(!!!). I don't know, maybe AAA is nicer in other places...
I've been spoiled by an uncle with a flat bed trailer, so I'm not much help in the towing advice area... but I would like to say I love Broncos, big and small, and I wanna see it when its finished!

Re: For those who know vehicles..
Don't really know the terrain of where you are, or if its rural or urban so I am kind of guessing here. If the brakes on the '86 are good, then you got nothing to worry about, because if you are rope or chain towing, its the being towed vehicle that will be doing most of the stopping, right? I mean the the tower still should use their brakes, but the towee needs to keep the tether under tension anyway, so I would think you would be fine. I have personnally towed vehicles that way over 30 miles. Nerve wracking? yeah, but CHEAP!!!!!
now if you could just sign this disclaimer saying that I am no way responsible for any bad things that may happen that I will be faxing you.....
