Shedding
OK, I know all BP's are individuals, and you can't give specifics, but...with that said...how often do they tend to shed when they are babies and are growing?
I've had Kashmire since July 7th and he hasn't even begun to show any signs of needing to shed. I guess since I've gotten over the milestone of first feed (not to mention first and last, doggone it, parasites), I'm anxious for his first shed.
He's spent the majority of his time in his hides since his last feed last Sunday and rarely comes out. When I take him out to handle him, he appears to my untrained eye to be healthy and naturally curious, but when he goes back in his enclosure, he goes right back in a hide. I haven't seen him actually come out at night (and I'm up very late) to drink or anything, like I did before.
So, am I just doing the over-anxious momma bit again?

Re: Shedding
I was over anxious too with my first BP that was a hatchling and took 2 months to finally shed after her first one. Dont worry it'll shed soon.

Re: Shedding
Probably a worry wort LOL join the club dear! I swear I posted constantly when we first got Baby, everything from eating to pooping to shedding, etc. and remember I had a snake that had no real "issues".
Poor lil Kash has been sick and had to go out to the vet and all that. I'm sure as long as your vet is saying he's healthy then he's probably doing what comes naturally....resting, growing and de-stressing tucked away in his hide. After all that's his safety zone and his system has gone through a lot this month.
I'm sure Adam or the other way more experienced people can give you a far better idea of what would be normal for Kashmire as far as activity level and shedding. I know with Baby one day very suddenly her eyes went blue, her belly went pink and she dulled down in skin tone. Off we were on our first shed experience (along with many panicky sounding posts LOL).
Then to just make me worry she didn't poop for awhile and re-shed only 2 weeks later....rotten thing LOL. Nothing was wrong, she pooped as soon as Adam replied to my thread (rotten snake set me up) and she proceeded to shed beautifully. She just was growing fast and needed to I guess. Since we got her in May she's shed a total of 3 times but I would think all snakes are different at different stages of their lives and growth cycles.

Unfortunately, there's no way to tell. But I promise you if you keep feeding him, he will shed before you know it!

Re: Shedding
Well, it figures! I took him out this evening to handle and he was tickling my neck and crawling in and out of my t-shirt at the collar. I put him back in his enclosure and he goes straight for his hide....however, now he's out and about looking curious (not crawling the sides to escape). I told Karl he's probably getting hungry, and I down-sized the last mouse I had that I got fat and happy (and pretty darn cute, and if I could justify another pet, would have turned into a pet mouse - pretty gray little guy). Anyway, I've got two white weanlings ready eating and drinking and will be dinner tomorrow for Kash.
I took him back to the pet store today and told them that he needed to be someone else's snakes food, I couldn't feed this little guy to Kash now (not to mention I think he was probably too big at this stage).
I did look at their balls again, and they only have one baby left. They were the same size as Kash when I got him, and he looks so much bigger and healthier than that poor little guy. They have three adults all together too, and I hate that!
Anyway, enough on that! Thanks guys, I'll continue to be patient! LOL

Re: Shedding
Hey Robin, from the voice of experience here (finally something I know about...whoohooo) pick the nicest mice of the size you want, but for your own sake...pick the plain white ones LOL. Some of those lil pretty ones are just too hard to not like "too much". I know, I know...they are just feeder mice but dang I stick with the plain whites ones!
Course my breeder mice are all colors so I'm not sure what I'll get if Mr. Studly ever gets his butt in gear and "makes some snake food". I swear that male mouse just doesn't seem all that interested. I'm thinking of mood music and some wine in their water

Re: Shedding
Once they start shedding, it'll seem like they're constantly shedding. I went to get my guy out last night and found that he was in shed AGAIN, it seems like it's happening every month or two and he's a juvenile. If yours has been sick, definitely give it time, it's only been a month since you've had it. I bet in no time you'll see the blue eyes and do a little happy dance.
